Waleed Minhas

PwC’s Academy Manager, Dubai

waleed

Waleed reflects on his role as a tutor and the resulting connections with his students:

After graduating I become a tutor in 2010. Being a tutor was a natural career choice for me, I was always helping friends study for our exams. I am teaching at PWC’s Academy. I see my role more as a mentor; my students constantly come to me for guidance and advice.

There are lots of students who are constantly in touch and it is so great to see them progress in their careers.  I trained a regional prize-winner who acted as an inspiration for their friend to join my course and become a prize-winner too. I have trained 12 prize-winners in the last 9 consecutive exams sessions.

It is great to witness such stories and be part of this connection.

Nikhil Vachani FCCA

Senior lecturer, Phoenix Financial Training, Dubai

Nikhil shares his journey to becoming a tutor and why he enjoys helping others to on their own path to ACCA membership.

Early on in life, I developed a liking towards accounting during my A levels which made it more fun to help my peers and friends at school and at Warwick university where I graduated. I am now teaching at Phoenix Financial Training. There is no explanation that can justify how gratifying my job is. There is no feeling close to the satisfaction you get knowing you have helped the students to pursue their dreams and excel in their careers. This feeling is what keeps me going   for the past 9 years with the same energy and passion.

Thanks to various social media platforms, it makes it very easy to keep in touch with ex-students. It feels like only yesterday as if they were in my class, but lots of the students are now in senior positions in a variety of organisations. It makes me feel very proud when I see my students excelling in their respective careers.

I was thrilled to see my name and feel proud of being a fellow member of the ACCA.

Reindorf B Perbi

Reindorf B Perbi, Africa

Reindorf was one of the first members to find his name on our member wall when it was launched in Ethiopia in December 2017.

At the 2017 African Members Convention held at Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. I noticed the member wall that listed members of ACCA in alphabetical order, using surnames. I took time to look for my name, and it sure was exciting seeing it there. I had walked away when it occurred to me to look for my daughter’s name, and it sure was double the excitement and feeling of pride to see our names side by side. You don’t keep such experiences to yourself: I could not help sharing it with other members standing by.
